Check out the exact same reviews you just read over on my blog if you want: This was from barrel which was a 3rd full Bourbon barrel. More tannins, a little harsh bitterness.
This is the 'single barrel' range, all from selected single casks or barrels. Although because every barrel is different, it is likely that the quality is quite changeable. The distillery sits just in the shadow of Balvenie Castle. There are some of these with a much darker colour. This was from barrel which was a 3rd full Bourbon barrel. Quite full, fresh fruit, apple and pear, oak spice, vanilla, then more pear. Lots of oak, dry, honey, spice, dry ginger, pressed flowers. So, in that spirit hehe , here's some Balvenie reviews. The distillery was fitted with second hand stills from Lagavulin and Glen Albyn distilleries. For the first 6 hours of the 48 hour drying process they use peat and the remaining 42 hours they use coal. The aroma of Single Barrel has the complexity of an aged whisky with a symphony of sweet, honeyed, oak notes, overlaid with a fragrant, fruity bouquet.
Although because every barrel is different, it is likely that the quality is quite changeable. As expected, it was another stellar single barrel Balvenie whisky; dark and complex, soaked in Sherry, raisins, ripe fruit, chocolate and baking spices. The palate is dry and sharp on the onset, bursting with butterscotch, toffee and honey, caked with layers of wood spice and dripping with ripe fruit and candied orangefarben. Another great whisky perhaps one of the best year Scotch whiskies on the marketwhich was then followed by the release of the Year Single Barrel Sherry Cask earlier this year. This is a wonderful whisky; perfectly balanced, incredibly complex, and absolutely delicious. Sweet, malty, nutty, slightly rubbery, then tannins. On the palate the initial dryness immediately changes to a honeyed burst of flavour that has butterscotch and toffee notes, rounded off with vanilla oakiness. This gives them a slight smoky flavor to their whisky. We'll send this message on your behalf. We actually got to try the whisky straight out of a barrel, which was a really elegant experience. I can image that a fresher Sherry 15 would have done better. I'm back, and I'm gonna try and post some reviews every goddamn day until I've got them all out there on the interwebs.
